The design burst pressure setting for rupture discs must adhere to the following principles: it shall not exceed the vessel's design pressure, shall not fall below the operating pressure, and the discharge capacity must be greater than or equal to the required safety relief capacity.
For instance, in the case of a reaction vessel, the design burst pressure may be calculated based on the operating pressure: for flat-slotted types, the calculation is "Operating Pressure / 0.5 / 0.95"; for forward-domed slotted types, it is "Operating Pressure / 0.8 + 0.015 MPa"; and for reverse-domed types, it is "Operating Pressure / 0.9 + 0.015 MPa." The actual design burst pressure selected must be greater than or equal to the calculated value, while simultaneously being greater than the operating pressure but less than or equal to the equipment's design pressure.
Rupture disc testing primarily covers parameters such as material properties, burst pressure, leak-tightness, corrosion resistance, and fatigue life. Such testing must comply with international standards-such as ASME and ISO-as well as national standards like GB 567. For example, burst pressure testing requires that the actual measured value fall within a range of ±5% of the rated burst pressure, while leak-tightness testing requires a leakage rate of ≤1×10⁻⁷ mbar·L/s.
Rupture discs require periodic replacement; their service life should comply with applicable regulations or be determined by the manufacturer, and in no case shall it exceed the scheduled inspection interval for the associated pressure vessel or cylinder. Non-specialized personnel are strictly prohibited from arbitrarily repairing, modifying, or tampering with safety pressure relief devices. As precision safety accessories, rupture discs must be installed by trained and knowledgeable personnel within their designated holders; during installation, care must be taken to avoid applying pressure to the domed surface, and a rupture disc that has been removed must never be reinstalled for reuse.
